#MergerMondays: Nonprofits Benefitting Children pt. 2
Today, we’re continuing to share stories about nonprofits serving children—not because the headlines are loud, but because the mission is steady and the work is essential. When organizations join forces in support of kids and families, they create stronger foundations for learning, steadier support for parents, and a brighter horizon for their communities.
In Omaha, Nebraska, and Council Bluffs, Iowa, Child Saving Institute (CSI) is formally absorbing Children’s Square. These two long-standing children’s care organizations will now operate under the CSI name. Over the past year, CSI has already been supporting Children’s Square during leadership changes. Under the new unified organization, the Children’s Square campus in Council Bluffs will continue its operations, while CSI plans to expand its service footprint adding programs where community needs exist. State-line regulatory differences between Iowa and Nebraska may present some constraints for state-contracted services, but community-based services are less bound, offering ample room for growth.
In the California Bay Area, Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley (BGCSV) is merging with Boys & Girls Clubs of Contra Costa (BGCCC), creating a stronger, more expansive network for youth development. BGCSV operates 40 clubhouses; with the merger, BGCCC adds more sites (including two new clubhouses in the merged structure) that serve hundreds of youth across more than 60 schools in over 18 school districts. All current clubhouses in Contra Costa will stay open. Though governance shifts under the BGCSV board, the Contra Costa brand and advisory board remain in place to preserve local identity. The merger strengthens financial stability and promises deeper programming in regions like Concord, Antioch, and Martinez.
These stories illustrate a growing trend toward nonprofits streamlining operations so that stability no longer rests at the mercy of individual budgets or fragmented leadership. By aligning missions, combining strengths, and preserving what works, these organizations are better positioned to deliver consistent early education, childcare, after-school support, and enrichment. These kinds of services shape childhood and lift entire neighborhoods. On this Merger Monday, we celebrate that kind of promise.
