In a powerful example of what’s possible when mission meets momentum, Cambridge Day—an independent local news outlet founded by journalist Marc Levy—has officially joined forces with Cambridge News Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to revitalizing community journalism. The move marks a major step forward for local reporting in Cambridge and Somerville, with plans to expand coverage across education, housing, governance, and development.

Since 2009, Levy has been a one-person newsroom, showing up day after day to tell the stories that matter most to his neighbors. His commitment—fueled by passion—became the heartbeat of Cambridge Day. Now, with the backing of Cambridge News Inc., his work will be supported by a full editorial team, including a new publisher, editor-in-chief, and additional reporters.

This merger didn’t happen overnight. A 2023 report by Cambridge News Matters laid the groundwork, highlighting the urgent need for robust, reliable local journalism. That call to action sparked both interest and investment from the community and local philanthropists, who rallied behind the shared belief that our cities deserve strong, trusted news sources.

This merger is a reminder that one person’s consistent care can spark lasting change. That the future of community news is still being shaped by people who care deeply, who refuse to give up, and who believe their city deserves better. One person with a vision. A community that said yes. A nonprofit that stepped in to help it grow.
