#Merger Mondays: Chapter Consolidations
This week we’re highlighting a pattern emerging within multi-chapter networks and regional nonprofits: chapter consolidations. These moves bring aligned chapters or regional branches together to streamline operations, share infrastructure, and extend community reach often while preserving local service and leadership.
First, Ronald McDonald House of Dayton and Ronald McDonald House of Cincinnati are merging to form Ronald McDonald House Southwest Ohio, serving families across the region. The combined organization will include a newly opened 42-bedroom House and two hospital Family Rooms, and now ranks among the top three Ronald McDonald House chapters globally based on nights of care provided. Leadership from both former chapters will remain in place to ensure continuity of services for families navigating pediatric healthcare journeys.
In Maryland, United Way of Southern Maryland officially joined United Way of the National Capital Area on February 2, 2026. The consolidation brings three Southern Maryland counties into a broader network serving 14 jurisdictions across Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC. The unified organization will continue focusing on shared priorities including Healthy Communities, Youth Opportunity, and Financial Stability across the expanded region.
And in the Midwest, Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois merged with Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana, creating a combined organization serving 21 counties in Illinois and 40 counties in Indiana. The consolidation is designed to expand access to employment, education, housing, and wraparound community services through shared leadership and resources.
