#MergerMondays: Boys & Girls Club of Greater Tampa Bay UPDATE

Last week, we shared lessons from recent nonprofit mergers in Florida. Today, we’re following up on one we’ve covered before: the merger between Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast and Tampa Bay. You can revisit our original post here.

Now operating as Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast and Tampa Bay, the combined organization is serving over 25,000 youth annually across five counties—making it one of the largest Boys & Girls Clubs in the country. Since merging, they’ve seen a 25% increase in club attendance, improved staff retention, and stronger donor engagement. They’ve also consolidated several administrative functions and invested in shared systems to support long-term sustainability.

What’s notable is how much listening and planning happened before anything was finalized. Leadership hosted more than 75 listening sessions with staff, youth, and families, and spent six months working through alignment across operations, boards, and programs.

In recent interviews, leaders shared that this process has helped them show up more consistently for youth while reducing duplication and creating new opportunities for staff development.

This merger is still unfolding, but already, it’s offering valuable insights for other organizations considering how to grow, adapt, or work together to meet community needs.
